What is a Terpene?
Botanicals derives its various scents, like citrus, pine, and berry, from terpenes. These aromatic compounds are critical in differentiating between strains of botanicals because they have a powerful influence over the consumer’s effect and experience.

Terpenes have shown great therapeutic promise. Research indicates that terpenes work within the endocannabinoid system in what’s known as the “entourage effect,” where certain terpene profiles cause varied or enhanced effects of cannabinoids like CBD. If the terpene ratio is manipulated through breeding, one can modify or maximize the desired effects of a flower or product.

Terpene testing profiles the botanicals to identify strains. This type of testing also helps uncover the potential effects of a particular flower or product. We currently test for 22 terpenes.

OUR TESTING METHOD!
Since terpenes are volatile compounds, we analyze them under high heat using Headspace GC-FID (headspace gas chromatography with flame ionization detection).
